Halitosis is simply bad breath. Although it is not an illness, it can be a symptom of an illness. It is embarrassing to have bad breath but the reality is that people with bad breath may be oblivious.
How do you tell someone he has bad breath? It’s not easy to do so.
People find it uncomfortable to speak up but simply make a face when the person is close or they simply avoid close contact.

Dental cavities, gum disease, poor oral hygiene, inflammation of the tongue causing coating of the tongue can cause bad breath. Certain infections like a sore throat, ulcers and intestinal disorders can also cause bad breath.

Here are simple tricks to use to stop your breath from smelling like rotten fish.

  • Brush at least twice a day. Brush the tongue carefully taking care to scrape the white coatings.
  • Floss regularly to remove particles wedged between the teeth.
  • Replace toothbrush every two or three months.
  • Remove dentures every night and wash them before fixing them back when required.
  • Chew fresh basil or mint, they have chlorophyll that neutralises bad odours.
  • Go for regular dental check-ups.
  • Use mouthwash to gargle every morning.
  • Crunchy fruits[apple] and vegetables[carrots] have cleaning properties that prevent bad breath.
  • Chew a small thoroughly washed lemon or orange rind, it stimulates the salivary glands and fights bad breath.
