Bukonla Ifedayo Esan explores the essence of Valentine’s Day and how to celebrate it. The UK-based Nigerian entrepreneur and fashion stylist popularly known as BukkyKoga, during an interview.

“I think the public need to know why we celebrate, what we celebrate, and the justification for the celebration before a day is celebrated. Most people don’t know that in the name of celebration, they just put on clothes,” she said.

According to her, Valentine’s Day has been misinterpreted, particularly among the youths as they think it’s a day to indulge in a luxurious hotel and waste money on sexual pleasures. Valentine’s day is celebrated in some parts of the world to share affection between family members, acquaintances, or the less fortunate, rather than just a romantic date.

Bukkykoga emphasizes her point by urging the public to demonstrate Love, appreciation and affection during this special day. She said “Love can be expressed in the smallest form by sending cards adorned with photographs of cupids, hearts and flowers to show appreciation, not necessarily to spend an immense amount.

“Rather than thinking Valentine’s Day is celebrated for exclusive sexual pleasures, people should learn to express Love to other people regardless of the completion of their skin, religion or complexity. I encourage all young people to dislike this immoral act and, instead, to express attraction and appreciate one another.

“Let learn to practice Love in our community, continuously and frequently even beyond the 14th Valentine’s Day of February. Though, I often celebrate Valentine’s day with my family because my family is everything to me and celebrating a day as special as Valentine’s days means a lot to me and always make me happy.

“The fashion star Bukkykoga also urged women who are often sexually harassed on Valentine’s day to get the proper authority. She said women should disengage from individuals who still express Love solely for sexual pleasures on valentine’s day.

“Let us do what is right. Let our culture and people be led in the right way to live,” she said.
