Popular music streaming service, Apple Music recently marked its upward trajectory as it has amassed millions of subscribers on its platform.

The tech giant now has surpassed 60 million subscribers for Apple Music, Eddy Cue, senior VP of Internet Software and Services, revealed in an interview with French news site Numerama published on Friday.

Speaking to a Variety correspondent, an Apple representative clarified that the 60 million figure includes both paying customers and those on free trial accounts. That means the streaming service has grown about 20% overall since May 2018, when Apple cited 50 million total users (paid plus free).

In January 2019, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced on the tech giant’s earning call that it had topped 50 million paid Apple Music subs (as of the end of 2018). It’s unclear how many paying customers Apple Music has currently. The company launched the service in June 2015.

Although Apple still falls behind Spotify, which has 100 million premium users, Apple Music has had steady growth since its launch in June 2015. It reached 10 million subscribers in its first six months and climbed to 20 million paid users by December 2016. Barely one year ago, it had 40 million subscribers, and it reportedly attracted more paying users in the US than its rival music streaming service Spotify.
