The Periwinkles, Freedom Way, Lekki, Lagos, came under heavy sound of music, as leading gospel music artistes took turns on stage to entertain the crowd at this year’s Unusual Praise.

Held under the theme: Declare The Glory Of The Lord, the open air concert, which had guests from different walks of life, paraded some of the best in gospel music, including Nathaniel Bassey, Osinachi Nwachukwu (Sinach), Chioma Jesus, Panam Percy Paul, Tope Alabi, Grace Eze, BJ Sax, Joe Praise, Bukola Bekes, Daniel G, Mercy Chinwo, Gozie Akanchawa. Jude Nnam, Chukwuemeka A, Big Bolaji and others.

The 2019 Unusual Praise was indeed a declaration of the Glory of God as the renowned gospels act Sinach took the audience through series of worship songs and crowned it with the award winning song I Know Who I Am.

On his part, Nathaniel Bassey sounded his trumpet in praises to God with his popular song Imela Imele, before belting out his popular tracks that put many in the mood for worship.

Tope Alabi remains a leading voice in the gospel music sector of the industry. As usual, she got the audience awed with her Oluwa O Tobi and others. She took the audience, both at the concert ground and those watching the live stream at home, into moments of awesomeness in the presence of God.

In his address, the host church Parish Priest, Monsignor Paschal Nwaezeapu said, “Thanksgiving is very important; there are many things we take for granted. Praise and worship are first and foremost about God. Through the ministrations of the artistes, people are converted to God.” he said.

Speaking at the event, Nathaniel Bassey said, “What we do is not entertainment but spiritual; praise deals with the greatness of God. The only response to God is praise. Praise is an offering that we give to God. The bible says if we humans refuse to worship God, He would raise stones to praise Him. If there is ever a time to praise God, considering everything going on in Nigeria today, it is now.”

Commenting, Chinyere Udoma said, “Unusual Praise is about the awesomeness of God. It is not about our songs but about God”.

Chairperson of the Unusual Praise, Mrs. Lanre Da-Silva noted that despite the fact that the praise event is a Catholic initiative, it is for all Nigerians to experience the true feeling of worship.

The influences of music goes beyond entertainment, which is why the Catholic Church of Divine Mercy, Lekki, Phase1, tapped into what seem like the direct contact to God through it annual Praise event, Unusual Praise, aimed towards promoting evangelisation by creating an unforgettable praise experience. The initiative utilises live music and praise as a tool to inspire and challenge people from all backgrounds to share the message of Jesus Christ and to live a life centered around the Gospel of Jesus Christ in order to build a deeper relationship with Him.
