We are building a team Nigerians would be proud of, says Amuneke
Golden Eaglets Coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, is confident his wards would have a successful outing in the forthcoming U-17 World Cup billed for Chile later in the year, saying that every player invited to the team would sweat to get a place in the squad.
Amuneke, who is disappointed that the Eaglets were unable to go on a training tour of Korea because of a flu epidemic in the Asian country, said he would work hard to build a solid team Nigerians would be proud of.
According to the former Super Eagles winger, his players’ performance in training has been encouraging since they resumed preparations for the Cadet World Cup.
“The Golden Eaglets are living up to expectations in Camp, but I want to say that playing in Korea would have assisted in exposing the boys. Now my target is to continue working hard to bring the best out of my players. I want to warn the players that they must justify their inclusion to be in my team,” he said.
Speaking on the Flying Eagles and Super Falcons’ performance in the ongoing U-20 and Women World Cup competitions, Amuneke urged football loving Nigerians not to give up on football development in the country, saying that the fighting spirit displayed by the teams proved they were not ready to crash out of the championship.
