On Tuesday, August 23, 2016 – The AWP Network made history by organizing and hosting Taraba State’s first-ever pitch competition. This is the first time that a pitch competition for entrepreneurs will be held in the Taraba, Nigeria.

With high unemployment rates and Nigeria in a recession, the AWP Network deemed it important to focus on youth entrepreneurs. In attendance at this event was Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) -Comrade Udi Adamu, Founder of the AWP Network -Mary Olushoga, winners of the YouWin Nigeria entrepreneurship contest, Magaj Shuaib, Dr. Jatau Tenmuso David, Zubairu Emmanuel Ashindo, David Abulu and other locally based entrepreneurs.

Those who attended the pitch contest described the event as “an inspirational, amazing and educational experience.” Mary Olushoga held a pitch training session, provided one-on-one business coaching and gave valuable feedback to Taraba State’s young entrepreneurs.

To date, the AWP Network has provided and continues to offer pitch training sessions and business support services to students at Lagos State Model College, Meiran and women farmers in Taraba state. The AWP Network also received additional funding from the Planet Earth Institute to scale and expand its programs across various states in Nigeria.

Winners of the pitch contest were awarded cash prizes. The AWP Network also connected winners of the pitch contest to various resources and business support programs so as to ensure sustainability. In line with its mission, the AWP Network powers small business success for African entrepreneurs by providing a platform for entrepreneurs to obtain information on various funding and training opportunities.
