The fourth edition of the African Movies Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) took place last week at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos and it is safe to say that the celebrities came to slay and slay they did. Well, some of them at least.

The industries finest as well as notable personalities converged en masse to celebrate outstanding performances in African movies and while we were visibly impressed with a lot of our celebrities, some others let us down again this year. From stunning getups to make up and hair, celebrities obviously pulled out all the stops to give us their very best look. Gowns and suits shone, high-end jewelries lit up the night and it wouldn’t be out of place to say that the fashion industry participants smiled home to the bank in a huge way last Saturday, as stars battled to outdo each other on the red carpet.

One obvious tip to take away from this years’ red carpet, is that lace is back. Yes, lace was very prominent on the red carpet. From sheer lace to baby lace, cord lace, dry lace and needle lace, lace was not in short supply this year. Most men went the safe way by donning suits even though a few took risks with colours, design and accessories. Some celebrities are still yet to understand what dressing for a red carpet is and left us in shocked silence from some atrocities. From obvious cheap knock offs, to badly fitted clothes, unironed clothes, wrong accessories, inappropriate clothes, over exposure of body parts, the red carpet saw it all.
