SheCan holds second conference, celebrates Nigeria’s ‘First Women’

SheCan Nigeria has concluded its one-day mega conference that drew thousands of girls and women from across all walks of life to the MUSON Centre over the weekend.

SheCanDoMore Conference, which is now in its second year, has quickly become the biggest convergence of today’s women in Nigeria.

Almost 4000 women and girls descended on the venue and it is clear that the conference has outgrown the MUSON Centre, as there was a massive overflow even with the use of adjoining halls.

Featuring over 10 amazing speakers, founder, SheCan Nigeria, Ezinne Ezeani opened the conference with a powerful speech and welcomed the mammoth crowd, pointing out that this year was about celebrating ‘First Women’. Keynote speaker, Tonye Cole spoke on how powerful the Nigerian woman is and how she can achieve anything she sets her mind on.

Folake Sanu, Executive Director, Wema Bank spoke on Financial Planning and Management; Elohor Aiboni, the first woman Bonga Assest Manager, Shell, spoke to the audience on the possibilities awaiting women in the tech industry whilst Dr Chris Williams spoke on family health and why women must take special care of their health.

Dr Abimbola Abolarinwa, the first female urologist in Nigeria spoke on her efforts in getting more women into the field of urology. Oremeyi Akah, COO Interswitch took the audience on SheCanCode whilst Dr Helen Paul and Lolo 1 of Wazobia spoke on how women can break into the entertainment industry successfully. Acting Director Membership and Market Development CIPM, Gbenga Totoyi spoke on the importance of a career plan for women and Wemimo Adewunmi of Nigeria Info spoke on the woman and her talent.

The conference also featured a panel that discussed how career women could do more and break the glass ceiling. Panelists were Mabel George, Sigma Pension Division Head; Folake Sanu, Elohor Aiboni, Dr Abimbola Abolarinwa and Oremeyi Akah. Olive Emodi was the host.

Unveiling a board of advisors made up of Ezinne and Stanley Ezeani, Olajumoke Ajayi, Mary Lazarus, Vivian Kayode-Yusuf, Ibiene Okeleke, Oremeyi Akah, Gbenga Totoyi and Yetunde Adegbite, they promised to serve the movement to the best of their abilities.

Also featuring comedy sessions, refreshments, this year’s edition gave out the SheCanDoMore Awards to outstanding women who are either the first or only in their field. The awardees were Elohor Aiboni, SheCan Tech 2019 Woman of the Year; Folake Sanu, SheCanFinance 2019 Woman of the Year and Dr Abimbola Abolarinwa SheCanMed 2019 Woman of the Year.
