She Leads Africa, others shut down Lagos at 2018 #SLAYFestival

The second edition of She Leads Africa’s (SLA) SLAY Festival, which held last weekend at Tafawa Balewa Square, delivered as promised with educative and interactive stages, a tech village by Lagos Innovates, master classes, leadership circles with one-on-one coaching, speed networking, meet and greet sessions, book signings as well as awesome giveaways by vendors.

There were three stages: money and success, arts and culture, and health and wellness. The money and success stage was divided into five sessions, the first, How to get a job at Nigeria’s best places to work, anchored by Chika Uwazie, Jessica Akano and Oyiza Salu. The second session was Building and Inspiring a winning Team, anchored by Oluwatobi Olusola, Titi Odunfa and Nnenna Onyewuchi. The next was Building A Business in Africa and anchored by Sophia Ike-Onu and Funke Opeke and Developing Your Personal Leadership Style by Oluwasola Obagbemi, Zouera Youssoufou and Tonye Cole, who shared his years of experience as an entrepreneur and innovator. It rounded up with a group discussion on financial independence moderated by Bukky Akomolafe.

The Arts and Culture Stage saw participants learning on navigating the publishing industry successfully, anchored by Amara Okolo, Okechukwu Ofili and Azafl Omoluabi- Ogosi, building a global African brand by Bonang Matheba who dropped gems of wisdom, sending the audience into a frenzy. Turning Content into cash anchored by Dolapo Oni Sijuwade, Ink Eze and Yemisi Odusanya was another crowd favourite as well as was Bossing Up In a Male Dominated Industry, anchored by Ariyike Owolagba and singer, Waje.

The health and wellness stage featured testimonials, a yoga session, a live hair styling session and talks by actress and philanthropist, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Founder of Genevieve Magazine, Betty Irabor.

The tech village by Lagos Innovates took participants on photography, coding, fundraising advice for startups, artificial intelligence and machine learning and tech tools for creative and influencers. Lagos Innovates, an initiative of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) is aiming to invest in the development of women in technology, hence its sponsorship of the tech village.

The master classes featured talks on getting healthy after a baby, saving and investments, branding for career women, managing personal finances and even reaching body goals comfortably.

Experts were present to provide one on one coaching tips on several topics including resume review and interview tips, career growth and relationships, legal advice and marketing as well as developing and keeping connections.

The one-day event rounded off with live performances, skincare demonstrations, flash make up sessions, a keke picture booth, free cooking lessons and food by Maggi and interactive games.
