Self-esteem, management skills, temperament, crucial to business growth

Women have been counseled on the need to understand the role of temperament in boosting their impact in the market place and the need to develop self-esteem and people management skill for business growth and development.

This was said at the Mayokun Oreofe annual lecture, organised by Thriving Enterprise Development Centre (TEDC), themed Impact of self-esteem and personality on women owned businesses in Lagos.

The event had panelists such as, President, True101 Systems Limited, Olaolopin Olaide; Founder, Market place innovation Africa, Anurika Azubuike; Founder, Business mind center, Okeyin Ajayi; Director, Teleo Messengers Limited, Olubukola Adewakun and was moderated by Founder, Mwanga, Echika Obijiaku.

President, TEDC, Mayokun Oreofe explained that everyone has been gifted with a potential and should make efforts to harness it. Olaolopin Olaide, defined temperament as the behavioral pattern of an individual adding that personality is a product of temperament. According to him, experts have observed five characteristics as key to building a successful enterprise, collaboration, ability to seek help, perseverance, ambition and ability to make more money. He also spoke on the various types of temperaments, their benefits, disadvantages and ways to improve on them.

Anurika Azubuike, said that ‘imposter syndrome’ would always occur, but women need to decide what to do with it. She emphasised on the need for singles to discover self, for the married to create work-life balance and the importance of raising confident kids. According to her, one can discover self, by identifying passion but to grow passion into a business, there is need to ensure such services are needed in one’s environment.

On solutions to low self-esteem, Okeyin Ajayi, stressed the importance of knowledge.  They also explained the role of culture and relationship in building self-esteem. Olubukola Adewakun noted that women business have been truncated by limiting thoughts and previous failures, she however said such experiences should become opportunities to learn and grow.
