A few minutes later, our eyes were locked and we were both waiting for the other to make the first move. He cleared his throat, I blushed and looked away. After our intense moment was he just going to walk away and go back to his girlfriend?

“So I guess this is it. Don’t be a stranger”. He said…a bit uncomfortably.
I couldn’t believe my ears! Don’t be a stranger…. really? I smiled and mumbled a response. I am not even sure what it was. He smiled back at me and headed for the door. He paused and took one look at me as if waiting for me to say something. I turned around and continued packing, watching him leave was too hard. I waited till I heard the door shut and then the tears started flowing.

That was when I realized I should have said something. I should have asked him to stay, I should have told him I loved him. Even if he rejected me, I would know I had tried my best. I ran towards the door and threw it open and then I saw him running back up the stairs towards my room. He shoved me back into the room breathless and panting.

“I couldn’t go”. He said.
“I didn’t want you to go”. I responded.

“So what next”? He asked staring at me intently.
“I don’t know Tunji but if we still feel this way…..”

He cut me off.
“My mother is going to kill me”. He announced. “Alicia is going to be so heartbroken….Sewa I can’t do this. It’s not fair on everyone”

“I know. That’s why I thought it was best to leave so everyone could have some peace”. I replied.
“You can’t go”. He said.

“What is going on here? I can’t go, I can’t stay, you don’t want me to go but you don’t want to offend your mother or break Alicia’s heart. All you have told me is what you cannot do, what exactly can you do”? I asked. I knew my tone was a bit harsh but I was getting very frustrated.

“I can do what I know is right”. Tunji declared.
I thought he was going to walk out on me again, but instead he got on one knee and brought out a familiar box. The one I had returned months ago when I broke our engagement.

“Adesewa, the first time I did this, I did it because I felt it was the right thing to do now I am doing it again because I know it is the right decision. Will you marry me”?
