An Abuja-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), The Proactive Gender Initiatives, has pledged its readiness to support and fight for the rights of women and children in the country.

The NGO National Coordinator, Mrs Esther Uzoma, made the pledge in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.

Uzoma commended the courts for truly being the temple of justice for the common man, promising that the NGO would continue to alleviate the plights of women and children in the country.

She said the NGO was concerned with the fights for women and children rights in general, adding that “we have fought for the rights of many women and children in courts.

According to her, the NGO fight for children and women who are battered, violated, rapped and abused in one form or the other.

The coordinator said they were set to acquire justice for women and children in the courts for alleged violation of their human rights.

Uzoma said that due to the mediation engaged by the NGO many cases don’t get to the courts and that they only have six ongoing cases at the prosecution level in courts.

She said that annually, the NGO always handled 15 to 20 cases in courts, on the violation of human rights of women and children in the society.

She said they would ensure that women and child’s rights were protected at all times to forestall negative occurrences against them.
