In order to promote the brew, blend and mixture culture which add spice to events and parties, Lagos Cocktail, in partnership with Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi is set to hold the 2016 edition of the Lagos Cocktail week which takes off from October 10 to October 15.

Speaking to The Guardian, the organizer, Lagos Cocktail Week and head mixologist at Eventi Cocktails, Mrs. Lara Rawa, said that the Lagos cocktail is a platform that celebrates cocktail culture through seminars, training. “In view of that, we are having a cocktail week which will celebrate people who have achieved and done well in the cocktail industry.

“We will also organize master classes to educate, inform and we will have a grand finale to entertain people and show them the art of cocktail making. We have been doing this for three years now and this year will be bigger and better. We signed up more bars and we have introduced a competition called the ‘Bar Battle,’ which will hold on the grand finale.

“The essence of the bar battle is to boost the morale of bartenders who work in various bars. So our partner bars will bring forward one of their bartenders who will compete against each other. The winner will get a gift from our main sponsor which is the Wheatbaker hotel and the person will also be the face of Lagos Cocktail for 2016.”

Rawa also noted that while the first two days would witness the master classes and train people who have registered and paid, the third day will be the mixologist brunch where people who are in the business can share values, connect and throw ideas at each other. On the 14th health experts will go round the bars and see what is happening while the last day is the grand finale.

“We have about 13 bars participating both from the mainland and Island while for the master class, we will have about 20 people because it is a practical session where we will teach global trends in making cocktails.

“We aim to be a member of the international bartenders association; we want Nigeria to be a member country, we want to have a winner at the world championship during the international bartenders conference. We don’t just want to be known as a centre for tourism, where you party and have drinks we want it to translate into something tangible that will put the nation forward,” she added.
