IWD 2018: The Guardian partners two organisations to profile 100 leading women in Nigeria

Ahead of the International Women’s Day 2018, The Guardian is partnering Profiles & Biographies, one of Nigeria’s leading biographical documentation firms, and Gender Perspective, an international gender-focused organisation, to profile exceptional women leaders in a special biographical pull-out titled: “Nigeria Women Annual: 100 Leading Women in Nigeria.”

These biographical profiles will be published in a special pullout in The Guardian to mark the International Women’s Day for 2018.

Project Director and CEO of Profiles & Biographies, Mr. Kammonke Abam, said: “The project seeks to tell the Nigeria story through the profiles of the 100 women that are going to be profiled in this compendium.”

The project, Abam added, seeks to document the rich profiles and achievements of women in Nigeria who have left indelible footprints on the sands of time with a view to recognising and acknowledging their contributions to the development process.

He also noted that, “through this compendium of profiles, the views, values, and beliefs of Nigerian women will be mainstreamed in the national conversation and development discourse of the Nigeria.

“We also want to accentuate women’s voices in shaping the future and setting the agenda for the development of the country.

“The pull-out shall serve as a reference document and a source of inspiration to younger women who will draw strength and lessons from the stories of triumph of the women profiled in the book”, Abam added.

It will also serve as a credible platform for mobilizing high net-worth Nigerian women locally and in the Diasporas to further contribute to the development of Nigeria

The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is “Let’s Press Forward.” The theme, according to the Executive Director of Gender Perspective, Tammie Kammonke, sets the tone for the need to press forward and be tenacious in accelerating gender parity.

According to her, it also provides an opportunity to motivate and unite the world including our friends, colleagues and local communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.

“While we are conscious that gender parity won’t happen overnight, the good news is that across the world, women are making positive gains day by day.

“It is our firm belief in Gender Perspective that every woman can be a leader within her sphere of influence when we all take a bold pragmatic action to accelerate gender parity. Through purposeful collaboration, we can help women advance and unleash the limitless potential offered to economies the world over,” Tammie said.
