Diary of a Bored Housewife

DEAR DIARY,

I am so sorry I didn’t tell you about my day yesterday. Hmmmm, you know anytime I skip an entry I always have a good reason and boy I can’t wait to fill you in on yesterday! Just after I tucked you back in our little secret place, TK called and said he wanted to give me a heads up. Apparently, some of his investors were coming into the country for a board meeting on Friday and he wanted to have a little cocktail for them afterwards in our “little palace” as he calls it.

You should know the drill by now, dear dairy. These his so called “little cocktails” often become carnivals. Emem sent me a text shortly after, informing me that she would be at the house at 9am on Friday morning to get a brief of the arrangements I wanted her to make for the party. I won’t lie o, I was a little uncomfortable because I was wondering how TK had managed to contact her so soon after coming back from Abuja – or did they go together? That Emem girl! I am tired of asking TK what exactly her job description at his company is. Today she is the PA, tomorrow, the Special Adviser, and the day after, the Events’ Coordinator! I hope she doesn’t one day trade in all these roles to become his second wife…over my dead body! Anyway, at 10am Rosemary knocked on the door to tell me Emem was here… imagine! One hour late! No phone call to inform me she was running late, no text message… nothing. So I decided to show her. I left her downstairs for two hours while I took my time to look like her boss’s wife…yes, I had to look good to do what I intended to do.

Let me not bore you with the gory details, but trust me, Emem left with her shirt properly buttoned and her skirt drawn down to sit on her knees and a to- do- list so long I knew I had gotten rid of her for the rest of the day… hehehehehehehehehe. The silly girl told me she was hoping she would have time to go and get her hair done before the party; I told her I was her madam for the day and she couldn’t be dolling up on billable hours. Take that! Action lady Anjie!

That wasn’t even the highlight of my day… You know I hadn’t seen TK since last week Sunday. The party was to start at 7pm. I heard him walk into Oladunni’s room at about 6.45pm, while I was putting finishing touches to my makeup, and I listened to their conversation through the baby monitor in her room. I love the way he talks to her like she’s an adult, it just melts my heart. He told her he saw a pink bunny rabbit at the airport on his way back from Abuja and it reminded him of her…I don’t know why he thinks it’s funny that her teeth are that way, she’s obviously going to need braces at some point. When he came into our bedroom, my heart skipped a beat; I had almost forgotten how handsome he is. He leaned on the door and watched me put on some blush.

“Anjie, I have told you to stop rubbing pancake on your cheeks. One kiss from me is all you need to make your cheeks rosy”, he said, chuckling.

“TK I am too dark to blush, a thousand kisses from you can’t change that” I said sticking out my tongue. “Wanna bet?” He said as he walked towards me, he had that look…you know the look that makes him late for meetings and miss his flight occasionally. I picked up my hair brush and wagged it at him “TK don’t start please” I said in between giggles. He stopped in front of me, held my waist and pulled me closer as he lowered his lips to mine he said “I’m not starting anything, I am just picking up from where we left off”.

One hour later we went downstairs hand in hand, the red dress I had intended to wear to the party was now rumpled in a pool by the bed. The party had started without us. I was now wearing a silver knee- length dress I bought from Neiman Marcus on my last holiday. The dress is so beautiful. It has a square neck line in front, and behind, it’s bare, all the way to the middle of my back. It clings to every curve of my body. TK couldn’t keep his eyes off me. Well, TK and that horrible business partner of his Mr Carrington! Yes the bald American from Washington DC. Honestly, if he wasn’t one of TK’s biggest investors I would have told him about the numerous times the guy has tried to hit on me but I know my husband’s ego and I know how much he values Mr Carrington’s partnership…the idiot is what…70? Ewwwwww gross!

The evening was magical. Trust me now, I dazzled his guests with my “million-watt” smile as TK calls it and all the business lingo I have picked up from the episodes of ‘The Apprentice’ I have been watching out of boredom…Lol!. The best part of the evening was after the party, TK and I were standing on the stairs at the front door looking up at the stars; we had just seen the last of the guests off. He had his hand around my waist, I had my head on his chest …it’s amazing how tiny I feel next to him. He looked so handsome last night, even though I had noticed a couple of grey strands of hair around his temples – the man needs to rest! I told him I loved him and he did that thing he always does and I still don’t know how he does it, he pulled out the most beautiful charm bracelet I have ever seen from behind my ear and dropped it into my dress. I smacked him as I picked it up. It had only one charm, a female angel, and then he whispered “Heaven is missing one of these because I have you”. On days like this I love being his wife.

Needless to say, we went up to the bedroom for a little midnight loving with champagne and strawberries. I had even laid out the white Egyptian satin sheets I had received from my personal shopper that same day. Dear diary, it was so amazing …oh dear I have to go! I forgot to take the pill this morning. Please don’t judge me. I know it’s horrible that I am taking the pill while TK is desperate for another child but I can’t have another baby now. You know why I can’t …I just can’t!
