Amazing Amazon initiative sensitises women on domestic violence

The hall was filled to its capacity with women and men ready to change their lives and willing to change the world. They were yearning for knowledge and willing to learn!

The Speakers didn’t let them down. They were at their best! They were passionate and selfless in sharing and teaching. They were more than happy to impact and they were more than willing to impart!

It was the Lagos and The Woman Conference organized by the Amazing Amazon Initiative, a support group for women from all walks of life living in different countries across the world, dedicated to their empowerment, enhancement, uplifting, personal growth and development.

The conference was recently organsied to educate women on domestic abuse, its signs, causes and help available.

“Domestic Violence is a crime against the State. There are laws prohibiting domestic violence, said Mercy Makinde, the founder of AAI. “People should know and understand that this law exists in practice, not just in principle,” she added.

Some of the speakers for the day were Mrs Josephine Effah of Project Alert, Nigeria’s Leading Advocate against Domestic and Sexual Violence. Others were Mrs. Ini Onuk, the founder of Thistle Group, Mrs. Betty Irabor founder of Genevieve Magazine and one of Nigeria’s leading actresses, Omotola Ekeinde.
Makinde stated that the government needs to do a lot more sensitization and enlightenment programmes to let women understand that.

Speakers at the conference charged women to become better version of themselves. Mrs. Ini Onuk stressed the need for women to invest in properties and become better money managers. Mrs. Ekeinde stressed the need to balance work life and family life while Mrs. Irabor reiterated forming a formidable partnership with the spouses in other to lead a successful life in business, career and family.

“I’m leaving this conference a better person, with a sense of fulfillment and a renewed vigor,” said a participant at the conference who wanted to remain anonymous.

“Women supporting women should not just be a mantra we chant, we need to do more for ourselves and others. And this conference has helped me to realise somethings anew,” she added.
