The Globacom-sponsored African Voices on Cable News Network (CNN) will this week feature some of the leading lights of Africa’s fashion industry which is reportedly worth over $31billion.

The 30-minute magazine programme which comes up at 10.30 a.m. on Fridays is also repeated at 2.30 p.m. on Saturdays, 12.30 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. on Sundays. The show also airs on Mondays at 11:30 p.m. and on Tuesdays at 5.30 a.m.

In a press statement in Lagos, Globacom said this edition would highlight key players in the continent’s burgeoning fashion industry, adding that viewers would have a good time learning more about the continent’s creative hands.

Those to be featured on the programme, according to CNN, include Jenke Ahmed Tailly, Karim Tassi and Katherine-Mary Pichulik.

“We will start with a fashion icon out of Ivory Coast who is hoping to shake up the industry with his African heritage. And then we head to Morocco where a fashion designer is imprinting his city’s rich culture on crafty clothing, while also being inspired by international elements,” CNN stated.

An Ivorian, Jenke Ahmed Tailly is a fashion editor, stylist, and consultant. He is regarded as one of the most influential stylists in the industry. He’s known to have worked with international icons like reality TV star, Kim Kardashian and pop icons Beyonce and Kanye West.

Karim Tassi, a Moroccan, is the second guest. Described as putting into practice the motto “Art is born of the intermingling of cultures, the fashion designer is reputed for his rich fusion of indigenous fashion culture and international motif. Also, mixing of cultures is his main source of inspiration while his style plays on the diversity and richness of contrasts.

Katherine-Mary Pichulik, a hugely talented and creative South African entrepreneur and jewellery accessory designer, is the third guest. According to her, “the inspiration for my work comes from the alchemy of transforming everyday materials through craft, touch and design, and elevating them into something precious and covetable”.
