Weight loss goes beyond physical appearance – Deshapeables

Dr. Ibrahim Olatunji Idowu and his wife Mrs. Haolat Damilola Idowu (formerly known as Haolat Damilola Sarumi) popularly known as Deshapeables, are the owners and founders of the popular Nigerian Weight loss brand- Deshapeables. They registered their business with corporate affair commission (CAC) in 2018 and went on to make a name for themselves.

They are one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the weight loss business and are highly known for their dedication towards their brand. The couple also mentioned how they worked hard through sleepless nights with strong determination to grow their brand so far, they have become one of the best and fastest selling weight loss brand in Nigeria.

Their business idea was conceived when the couple began searching for a weight loss product that will work for them both, after adding a couple of pounds over the 2018 summer. They decided to try an appetite suppressant herbal tea which ended up working so well on them. From there, they became a distributor to this company in 2018. Six months later, they considered other routes to achieving a great body, and they expanded into selling other products such as gym wears, sporting accessories and waist trainers.

During the interview, they mentioned that so many people are not aware about the importance of weight loss aside physical appearance, as they pointed out how being healthy is a major concern. The couple elaborated that, so many individuals fail in their weight loss efforts and this is primarily related to their reasons for wanting to lose weight. Women going into weight loss journey due to health-related reasons rather than physical appearance tend to have a more successful outcome in achieving their goals. Therefore, deshapeables is creating awareness about the importance of weight loss beyond physical appearance.

This prompted the couple into running a monthly weight program where they give monetary rewards every month to their customers that have lost weight.

The 33-year-old husband is an Oyo indigene and 23-year-old wife is a Lagos indigene who met each other in the United Kingdom 2018 and got married 2019. The wife and husband travelled to the United Kingdom to further their education at a very young age. The wife is a University of Liverpool graduate and holds a first-class degree in Anatomy and Human Biology. Furthermore, she went on to do a postgraduate degree (PhD) in Life Course and Medical Sciences and she is currently in her final year. The husband is a Bsc, Msc, PhD degree holder in Bioinformatics from Liverpool John Moores University. His work involves helping SMEs in the business and technology innovative partnership in the Liverpool region.

Deshapeables has so many distributors around the world and this has created job opportunities for other women around the globe. As their beautiful slogan goes “Deshapeables to the world”.
