Students of Kwara State Polytechnic (KP) have decried the activities of the Directorate of Students Services (DSS), which recently appointed and imposed a caretaker government on them.

Students of Kwara State Polytechnic (KP) have decried the activities of the Directorate of Students Services (DSS), which recently appointed and imposed a caretaker government on them.

The students, who rejected the appointment, demanded that election should be carried as done in other reputable institutions, where students are meant to elect and vote a candidate of their choice into government.

One of the students, who pleaded anonymity, said: “The entire students of the school are not happy with what the DSS team have done. How can they appoint a caretaker leader to be our President without the student participating in the selection process?

“The DSS is hindering the success and existence of Students Union Government (SUG), through their unscrupulous activities. They illegally appointed some caretakers to keep acting on behalf of the students, because of their corrupt and misappropriation of funds meant for the students union.”

Another aggrieved student, said: “The DSS had an agreement with the previous students union to conduct election not to appoint caretakers. But now they are trying to stop the presidential election because of the money they will get from it. The presidential election should have been held but due to the fight between the students union and the DSS it was postponed to January 2020.
