WAPSU lauds moves to probe tertiary institutions over alleged irregularities

The West Africa Polytechnic Student Union (WAPSU), has commended the Federal Government for inaugurating ad hoc committees to investigate petitions brought against 10 tertiary institutions across the country.

WAPSU said the swift response by the Federal Government was a demonstration of its readiness to revive the country’s education system.

WAPSU President, Mr. Salaudeen Lukman, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, said the inclusion of Yaba College of Technology, Federal Polytechnic, Oko and Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, among federal tertiary institutions to be investigated was, “Indeed acknowledged in view of efforts of total restoration of peace and harmony in the mentioned polytechnic communities.

He said: “The leadership of Nigeria Polytechnic Students salute the commitment of the Federal Government of Nigeria, under President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, the proactiveness and swift response of the Federal Ministry of Education, under the watch of the Education Minister, Mr. Adamu Adamu, the Eighth Senate and the House Committee on Tertiary Education’s readiness to revive education system in Nigeria.

“We are very much interested in the development of our system, with the sole aim of improved teaching/learning environment.

He added, “Our hope and yearning is to see the Federal Government making education a priority by apportioning of high budgetary allocation to this important sector. It is obvious that the ongoing war against insurgency in Nigeria is only achievable when Nigerian youth populace is fully, lawfully and meaningfully engaged.
