Visitation panel calls for memoranda from UNN community

Members of the visitation panel to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) have called on the university community to submit their memoranda and participate actively in the process for the overall development of the institution.

Chairman and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof Gambo Abdullahi, who made the call in a statement by the secretary, Mrs Bukola Olatunji, said visitation panels would address challenges facing public university education in the country to proffer solutions to them.

She, therefore, urged all relevant stakeholders in the institution to play their parts in ensuring that the objectives of the exercise are achieved.

Prof Abdullahi said the memoranda, typewritten in Tahoma font -12 /double-spaced and in 10 hard copies, should be addressed to the Secretary, 2021 Presidential Visitation Panel, NUGA Secretariat, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State.

“Soft or electronic copies can be sent to unnvisitationpanel@gmail.com. All submissions must include full name, phone number, e-mail address, WhatsApp number and/or postal address of the author latest Tuesday, May 18.”

Other members of the UNN panel are Professors Prekeyi Tawari-Fufeyin; Danladi Slim Matawal; Osy Ezechukwunyere Nwebo, Abdul Ibrahim Radda and Alhaji Jimoh Ayinla Bankole.

The Federal Government had constituted visitation panels to all public tertiary institutions, covering 2011 to 2015 and 2016 to 2020.

The panels are to review the performance of each institution and advise Federal Government in areas of governance, academic standards, quality assurance, financial management, relationships between management, staff and students as well as conditions of physical infrastructure and instructional facilities, among others.

The panels would among others, look into the level of implementation of white paper on the last visitation report; leadership quality of each university in terms of roles of Governing Council, Vice-Chancellors and other principal officers; financial management of each institution; including statutory allocations and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) within the recommended period and determine whether it was in compliance with appropriate regulations.

They are also to investigate applications of funds, particularly special grants and loans meant for specific projects in order to determine the status of such projects and their relevance for further funding; examine the adequacy of staff and development programmes of each university; while looking at relationships between institutions and various statutory bodies.
