The election of the new officers was a major highlight of the yearly conference of the organization held last weekend at the University of Lagos.

On the occasion, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Oluranti Adebule applauded the executive members of The Companion for their laudable initiatives in support of the state government’s programmes and activities.

Mrs Adebule appreciated the thoughtfulness in the choice of the theme for the conference, “Life of a Muslim in an era of change.” She said such could not have been timelier, coinciding with the beginning of the ne Muslim calendar year, Hijrah 1439. “A time during which Muslims are being advised and encouraged to strive for change, change from bad to good and good to better. We are expected to reflect and move from inaction to action spiritually, physically, mentally and socio-economically. All in line with the sunnah of the Holy prophet Muhammad (SAW).”

She however assured that Lagos state government would continue to drive change agenda as it concerns the transformation of Lagos to become a mega and smart city for better living for the citizens.

The deputy governor described the gathering as a rewarding exercise. “Jihad is not by sword or force; our gathering here is jihad, we are promoting change because our nation and the entire world is clamoring for change to better our lives and make life worth living. Life itself is dynamic, so we must experience change always and we must always be prepared. Change affects all aspect of our life,” she said.

She noted further that for Muslims not to be swept into oblivion, change must be embraced. “If we practice Islam sincerely and accordingly, we will cope very well. Islam is a way of life, every aspect of human endeavor has been well thought out and planned by Allah.”

The outgone President, Barr. Musbaudeen Oyefeso charged Muslims to be faithful, courageous and patient at all times, especially in the period of adversity.

He expressed gratitude to members for the opportunity given to serve Allah through The Companion. “I call on all members who I may have offended in the course of this duty to overlook my shortcomings as perfection belongs to only Allah.

“I pledge my support to the in-coming administration and appeal to all our members to also cooperate with the new National Executive Committee in order to move our organization forward for the benefit of the Ummah and to ultimately earn the pleasure of Allah.”

The group used the opportunity of the conference to congratulate the Federal Government and the investors/subscribers for the success of the Sukuk that was recently offered to the public. “We call on the government to enthrone complete transparency and prudency in the management of the fund and ensure that the fund is used for the intended purpose in order to build the confidence of the people. The Press and other stakeholders should also monitor and provide progress report on the roads that have been earmarked for construction with the fund.”
