‘Technical education imperative for national development’

Proprietor Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has disclosed that a sound technical education is required for national development.

Adeboye who spoke at the 2nd matriculation ceremony of the college said RECTEM was borne out of the vision to have two world-class tertiary institutions in the field of science, engineering, management and technology that will provide sound middle level and higher technical education, as well as the required knowledge and infrastructure for technological innovation channeled into our national development process.

Adeboye who was represented by the National Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Joseph Obayemi said, “Our philosophy is to attain the ultimate height in providing middle level technical and vocational training of the highest standard in order to create a pool of highly trained technicians and technologists that will support the nation’s engineering infrastructural development.”

He relieved the mission statement of RECTEM as developing a centre of academic excellence for training students to acquire qualifications higher than secondary school, produce high quality, knowledgeable and innovative graduates, worthy in skill and character, through effective detaching, learning and research and to also produce skilled manpower that is globally competitive and are required by large companies, as well as the nation’s micro, small and medium enterprises..

Chairman, governing council, Prof. Johnson Odesola said he was elated by the excellent performance of the first set, which gave impetus to the emergence of the second.

According to Odesola, western education has only made a lot of people to be servants, looking for white collar jobs after graduation with no technical ability to be self-employed, the irony that RECTEM has come to correct.

“Our aim is to take Nigeria, this and up-coming generations to the next level” he assured.

The rector of the institution, Dr. Stella Mofunanya described RECTEM as an institution where the fear of God reigns supreme with commitment to high moral and academic standards.

“Our students are also trained in various vocational skills to make them versatile, employers of labour and self-reliant after their course which had been made possible through our entrepreneurship centre.

Mofunanya charged the matriculating students to be champions in their chosen careers.
