I was surfing Facebook when I saw a picture of a new restaurant that got people talking. From what I could deduce, the restaurant had been opened recently and their food tasted nice.

Call me doubting Thomas, I am not one to believe the hype of the majority. Maybe it was my desire to judge the authenticity of the African taste buds commenters claimed to have or to become a believer that propelled me to the restaurant. With little or no conviction, I headed out.

La Damme Restaurant, Bar and Lounge is located at 41 Adebayo Doherty Street (Road 14), off Admiralty way, Lekki Phase 1. Found in the same building as the Lupees Supermarket (LL Zone), the first sight that welcomes you to the restaurant is the bush bar which unusually sits atop a store. This made an impression on me and I decided to try out their food.

Despite the whole range of African dishes to choose from and their special LaDamme rice, I settled for Jollof rice (for obvious reasons), plantain and chicken with “Gentle Panda” punch. The rice tasted like homemade Jollof and I immediately regretted not going for another dish which my taste buds had now confirmed would be worth it. Also, the staff were friendly and kept asking if I needed anything else.

Taking hold of my Gentle Panda which tasted like yoghurt, pineapple and sweet somethings, I headed upstairs to the lounge on the pretence that I wanted to ask questions in case there was anything I had planned. The lounge caters to smokers and non-smokers in its VIP section and has a range of alcoholics to choose from.

Imagine my surprise when they brought the bill and all I had eaten did not cost up to N2000.

Will I go back there with such hospitality and price? Of course
