Ogechi Ukonu, popularly known as Caramel Plugg on Instagram, has reiterated the role social media played to elevate her societal status.

The Abia State Indigene, based in Canada, became a brand to reckon with on Instagram in 2019 after she created the game of thrones rant video. It circulated the internet drawing attention to her platform.

Caramel Plugg considered it an opportunity, took advantage of the fame, and built on it.
Now she is reaping the fruits of her creativity; she says, “Social Media has opened doors for me. It has allowed me to connect with people and build networks with highly notable people in the film and entertainment industry.

I’ve also been privileged to start my bonnet line with this opportunity.”

Adding, “There are cons attached to every beneficial position. But one that can’t be avoided is the steady need to keep going. It’s not annoying; it just puts you in a position never to want to lose what you have.”

Presently, Caramel Plugg´s followers on Instagram are well over 670 000, and having such massive followership comes with a lot of pressure, she claimed, “especially because you just never know who’s going to perceive your content differently as compared to what you delivered.”

She added: “There’s also pressure in balancing creating content with my academics, which right now, is my top priority.”

Nonetheless, Caramel Plugg has no problem with feeding her followers with contents, despite it with academics.

“There’s always an inspiration for me―an interesting quote, discussions with friends and family, or I can even imagine myself in situations,” she said.

“As for my vibe videos, the contents are raw and undiluted because music plays a big part in my life. I’d like to believe that I connect to music very differently,” she added.

Caramel Plugg, presently studying Global Development and Communications at the University of Fraser Valley, Vancouver, Canada, advised young people who are still new to social media: “Never change for anyone. The world will adapt to you no matter how long it takes them.”
