NCDC, NFELTP scientific conference to address public health issues, boost research works

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Nigeria Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (NFELTP) is set to hold its third yearly scientific conference.
Themed: “Strengthening Health Security Through Field Epidemiology”, the conference, which is billed to hold from September 4 to 6, 2018 at the Transcorp Hilton Conference Centre, FCT, Abuja, will create a platform that would enable epidemiologists and public health physicians share their scientific works with the larger public health audience.

According to the organisers, the conference, which would commence from 9am to 5pm each of the days, would provide a forum to share new knowledge on field epidemiology, provide residents and graduates of the NFELTP a forum to share findings from their field-based activities and research work, provide a training opportunity for residents on scientific communication, provide opportunity for epidemiological networking and partnership as well as provide a forum to discuss pertinent public health issues.

The Nigeria Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (NFELTP), one of the workforce development strategies of NCDC, was established in October 2008 to develop a self-sustaining institutionalized capacity in order to train public health leaders in field epidemiology and field-oriented public health laboratory practice, as well as to provide epidemiological services to the public health system at the federal, state, and local levels.

Speakers at the conference include, the Executive Director, African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), Kampala-Uganda, Chima J. Ohuabunwo, First Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, Tolbert Nyeswah, Director-General National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Dr Sani Aliyu, Professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology at the University of Ibadan, Oyo state, Prof. Iruka Okeke, Senior Executive for Africa at the Global Health Services Network, Dr Okey Nwanyanwu, Country Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Nigeria, Dr Mahesh Swaminathan and Professor Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ambrose Alli University, Prof. Sylvanus Akhalufo Oko.
