Rector urges students to embrace entrepreneurship

As part of efforts to bridge the unemployment gaps in the country, the rector, Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Femi Omokungbe has joined in the call for students to embrace entrepreneurship

Speaking at the 2017/2018 matriculation of the college, Omokungbe noted that entrepreneurship would make students job providers instead of job seekers.

‘it is worthy of note that this college is the first higher institution in Nigeria to establish a full -fledged Centre for Entrepreneurship Development with strong linkages with the world of commerce and industry.’

Specifically, he stated that entrepreneurship studies trains students from onset to be self-reliant.

“ It is expected that by the time you graduate, you would have acquired the necessary skills to be an entrepreneur and an employer of labour rather than just another job seeker, thus contributing to the development of the nation in diverse spheres.’

He added, “Emphasis is laid on competency based education. It is important that our students are taught, and imbibe the correct skills to make them employable and relevant in the workplace.

As part of efforts to create awareness and encourage the development of skills, the college organises the World Youths Skills day every July 15.”

‘The Applied Research and Technology Unit (ARTI) is also established in the college to promote research and linkages with relevant private sector organisations, particularly macro, small and medium enterprises for the exploitation and use of research for development.

The unit also assists to promote linkages between our students and other institutions especially in the area of research.
