Principles of nutrition: Genesis 1, 29 diet

By Paul Joseph Nanna |   19 April 2018   |   3:41 am

“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon all the face of the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food.”

This familiar verse of scripture is the foundation of what I refer to as the Genesis 1, 29 Diet. GOD in all His wisdom has made life worth living for human beings, life without pain and sicknesses.

This is life where death is a true and painless transition from one realm to the other. When death comes, for sure it would come, it would be through sleep; and this, in old age only. The baby at birth did not come into this world in pain, why then must someone leave in pain and sickness.

The Genesis 1, 29 Diet as given by GOD is meant to nourish human beings that He created. The Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, defines the word nourish thus, “to give a person or other living thing the food and other substances they need in order to live, grow and stay healthy.

The things that we eat and drink should make us live well cause us to grow and live healthy all the days of our lives.

Alas, it is no longer so, for the very food and fluids we eat and drink, respectively, are the things that cause diseases in us. The human being is no longer living; he is dying every day.

The Genesis 1, 29 Diet is one that GOD gave to mankind for nourishment, to live by, grow and stay healthy. This diet, when prepared, served and eaten the right way, only guarantees life, without diseases, sicknesses and pain.

Even when disease-forming organisms find their way into the body, one way or the other, they will be rendered non-infective by the powerful immune system brought about by the components of the Genesis 1, 29 Diet.

GOD, from the very beginning, intended that humans should live long, healthy and productive lives before dying peacefully in old age.
Reasons why human beings eat

Hunger is the commonest reason that people give for eating. The emptiness of the stomach coupled with a feeling of weakness and tiredness together with certain other stimuli cause the brain to give the signal for 0hunger.

There are individuals who eat because they like the taste of the food or because they are longing for a particular taste or flavour.

Very few individuals would tell you that they eat to get well or to remain healthy.

As important as this third point is, it is unfortunate that not many people know this and so do not pay any particular attention to what they eat.

If human beings were to eat for health or to be healed, then such programmed eating as practiced in most homes today would have been relegated to history.

There are some other reasons people give for eating but suffice to say that whatever your reason for eating, you may want to know that you eat because your body has a need. For optimal health, wellbeing and wellness, these needs have to be met as they arise.

It may interest you to know that when there is deficiency of one or more minerals in the body, it enters into a dis-ease mode, which is a warning signal that all is not well.

Now let us take a peep into the heart of GOD to see why GOD the Creator gave human beings food as shown in Genesis 1: 29. In that scripture, one word becomes very relevant to this article and that is the word herb.

Simply put, the word herb means a plant or plant part valued for its medicinal, savoury or aromatic qualities.

In other words, part of what GOD gave to man for food at the time of creation was actually medicine, presented as food.

It is in the light of this that I begin a new series on herbal medicine. Our medicine for whatever ailment, our wellbeing and wellness has already been put in our food.

Hippocrates, the father of medicine said; “If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.
