Procter and Gamble (P&G) has expanded its footprint in Nigeria by commissioning a state-of-the-art production line for Always brand at its manufacturing site in Agbara, Ogun State.

While declaring the manufacturing line open, Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo stated, “This investment feat is in line with our policy of backward integration, which is exemplified in the recently released Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP). After 21 years of operations in Nigeria, P&G, undoubtedly, is one of the country’s fastest growing consumer goods investor today. And your success represents a vote of confidence in the Nigerian economy and a pointer that our economic and market reforms are progressing on the right part.”

He further stated that government would continue to support the private sector, adding that their importance to the development of any nation cannot be over-emphasised.

Similarly, Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, said, “Today’s programme marks a milestone in the history of Procter and Gamble Nigeria. My joy essentially derives from the fact that the commissioning of today’s manufacturing facility with a value of $23 million comes exactly three years after we officially commissioned the factory. We have seen P&G make social and economic contributions to the state through the completion of a 3-room office block and the donation of security vehicle to the police and a 200KVA power generating set to the Ministry of Health, Abeokuta, Ogun State.”

On her part, Acting Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mrs. Yetunde Oni, stated that “NAFDAC is committed to providing support to the local manufacturing sector and ensuring that quality assured and affordable and regulated products are within the reach of all those who need them, thereby reducing dependence on imported products. Our goal is to bring international best practices to bear on all our activities, while safeguarding the health of the nation.”

While welcoming guests, Managing Director, P&G, Mr. George Nasser, noted that “P&G’s growth and expansion plans for Nigeria are long term. Nigeria remains a focus area for P&G. Today, P&G employs about 5,000 people directly and indirectly with Nigerians making up over 98 per cent of our managers locally and some on international assignments. Our social investments touch over three million Nigerians annually in health and education programmes.

P&G started production of Always sanitary pad in Nigeria in 1993.
