PCN inducts 36 fresh pharmacy graduates of University of Maiduguri

The Registrar, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), Elijah N. A. Mohammed, has inducted 36 fresh Pharmacy graduates of University of Maiduguri, Borno State.

The colourful ceremony held at the El-kanemi Hall of the University of Maiduguri had in attendance the Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi. Principal Officer of the University in attendance included the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), The Registrar and Bursar of the University among others.

According to a statement from PCN signed by the Head of Education and Training Department, Anthony Idoko, “the Vice Chancellor, who was the Chairman of the occasion, in his speech expressed his appreciation to the Registrar, PCN for defying the odds and obvious security challenges to visit the University to induct the fresh graduands.”

Njodi stated that the Faculty of Pharmacy in the University, being the only accredited Faculty of Pharmacy in the North East Zone has played a leading role in producing the Pharmaceutical manpower in the zone. He added that the Faculty has graduated over 300 Pharmacists since inception in 2002.

The Vice Chancellor added that the University has continued to maintain and sustain uninterrupted academic programme amidst the difficult environment. This is as a result of good rapport and synergy between the University and the security agencies. He attributed the induction ceremony to the belief of the PCN that peace has returned to Maiduguri and the manifestation of the collective efforts and perseverance of both the staff and students of the Faculty and by implication the University community.

The Vice Chancellor also stated that the Faculty is currently running a Postgraduate programme in two departments namely Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. He attributed the success recorded at the Faculty to the unrelenting efforts of the staff of the Faculty.

Njodi used the opportunity to plead with the Federal government and its Drug Regulatory Agencies to vigorously put into operation the legislature that will curb the ubiquitous hydra-headed menace of drug abuse and misuse, fake drug and quackery in our society. He urged the graduands to venture into the society as good ambassadors of the University stressing that they are expected to be honest, trustworthy and dedicated in all their undertakings.

The Registrar, PCN in his remarks thanked the Vice Chancellor and the University for the support given to the Faculty of Pharmacy. He stated that he had earlier carried out assessment of the facilities of the Faculty in company of the PCN Accreditation Team.
