Osinbajo, Fowler, others give back to Igbobi College

Memories of the past were rekindled when old students of Igbobi College converged on Rev. Cannon Reginald Parker Memorial Chapel to relive their days in school, and to take stock of their past, current and future contributions to their alma mater.

Coming under the banner of the Igbobi College Old Boys Association (ICOBA), Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo and the Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Babatunde Fowler were among the dignitaries that attended the 40th anniversary and reunion ceremony.

Chairman of the organising committee, Mr. Seyi Taiwo, said a lot of efforts had been made collectively by members to give back to the institution that nurtured and contributed immensely in shaping their future.

He said, “We started this association seven years after leaving school. On November 7th 1982, the set was officially inaugurated. It had not been easy but we thank God for the continued unity and the modest achievements that we have made since then. So far, 16 members have presided over the affairs of the association since inception with Osinbajo being the pioneer chairman.

“Many of the old boys became very successful and they never forgot their alma mater. They started giving back to the college eight years after leaving school with the inauguration of the ‘Talabi Esubiyi Memorial Essay Competition’ for students in the college.”

Other interventions from the set (1969-1975) according to Taiwo, includes refurbishment of the Reverend Cannon Reginald Parker Chapel, donation and installation of a digital organ in the chapel; installation of a 27 KVA electricity generating plant at the school’s Information and Technology centre. Others include renovation of the school’s junior academic block (one of the projects undertaken to mark the 40th anniversary).

In his word exhortation, Rev Bola Oyeladun, (an old student) urged members to ensure that they continue as one indissoluble whole, just as he lauded members for their contributions to the maintenance of infrastructure and facilities in the school.

Oyeladun told the gathering, which also included current students of the school, old students from other sets as well as friends and well wishers that they had a lot to be thankful for.

Osinbajo in his remarks gave thanks to God for the opportunity to be part of the occasion, which marked the 33rd year of the establishment of the association.
