As part of its effort to provide good healthcare, improve the quality of life and promote healthy living among the people, the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its joint ventures has handed over a refurbished female ward and an ambulance to Epe General Hospital in Epe, recently.

Acting Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health (MoH), Dr. Olakunle Enigbokan representing the Governor of Lagos state, Governor Akinwumi Ambode while expressing his delight at the donation of the ambulance said: “On this occasion, the government and people of Lagos state express gratitude to Chevron Nigeria Limited as we accept the refurbished female ward of Epe General Hospital and the donation of an ambulance as part of its corporate social responsibility.

“We commend Chevron for partnering with the state government through social investments in education and infrastructure development among others.

“It is on record that CNL contributed significantly through the donation of ambulances which assisted our efforts in overcoming the challenge of the Ebola crisis.

“This new intervention is quite appreciated as it will complement our efforts in providing quality and accessible health care service delivery to our people particularly the people of Epe.

“Let me use this opportunity to reassure our people of our commitment to their well-being. We shall continue to do our best to strengthen the primary health care centres and establish new ones that will be well equipped to address the health care needs of people in our communities.”

Ambode urged all to make good use of the facilities that have been provided for their benefit.

Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Clay Neff who was also represented by the Acting General Manager, Policy Government and Public Affairs, Sola Adebanwo added: “These interventions and support have been made in line with the Chevron and Co-ventures’ Tradition of care, which includes a robust health programme in the pursuit of our corporate responsibility as conscientious business organization. We view health care as a crucial social service that needs inclusive support.

“We thank the Lagos state government for partnering with us in deploying this and other corporate responsibility programmes by our companies. Over the years, we have successfully partnered with the state to implement various programmes in the areas of health, education, economic empowerment and the environment.”

Neff further enumerated the projects embarked upon with the government which include: donation of medical equipment to Massey children’s hospital, Lagos island; installation of a 40kva sound proof generator, the renovation of a building to serve both operations offices and stores to the hospital in 2009 as well as a medical waste incinerator, amongst others.

“He further said: “In recent times, it has become apparent that the increasing health pressure in the country cannot be resolved by merely adding resources, but must also be addressed with new methods of service delivery.

“We also hope that it will add value to the first line in the continuum of healthcare and contribute significantly to ‘treat and transfer’ or ‘treat and leave’ programmes in Epe area and beyond.”

The M.D commended the management of Epe General Hospital for the good job they have been doing in the community.

“We are confident that the ambulance and the upgraded female block would be judiciously used and for the benefit of the people.”

However, the Group General Manager, National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), Mr. Dafe Sejebor represented the Supervisor, Community Development, NAPIMS, Helen Nkwo, urged stakeholders to be committed and work for the sustainability of the projects so as to achieve the goal of improved health care in the communities.
