No religious discrimination in UNILAG, VC declares

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has commended UNILAG Muslim Community (UMC) for peaceful co-existence being enjoyed among various faithful in the institution.

Ogundipe gave the commendation during a special prayer organised by the Muslim community to mark the end of 50th convocation ceremony of the institution.

He noted that there is no religious discrimination among staff and students of the prestigious institution.

“Those that grow on Lagos Island know that there is no diversity in Lagos State. Members of UMC have, by their good conduct, shown that they are God-fearing and patriotic Muslims.

“During Jumah prayers, Muslim make use of use of the church parking space likewise the Christians also make use of Mosque parking space during their Sunday service because we see ourselves as one,” he said.

He urged members of the community to continue to promote the peace enjoyed in the university and ensured the unity does not break.

He prayed for forwardness of the institution, the school will witness more of this peaceful convocation.

The Chairman of UMC, Prof. Lai Olurode commended the Vice Chancellor’s leadership trait, saying he his an exemplary leader who gives no room for religion discrimination.

“So many doubt the presence of the Vice Chancellor in the mosque since because he his a non-Muslim, but due to his love for unity he was here with us”

The Chief Imam of UMC, Dr. Ismail Musa rejoiced with Vice Chancellor and management of the institution, praying that this will mark the beginning of good things in UNILAG.

He urged Muslims to continue to pray for the Vice Councilor. “Every leader require one thing from his followers and that is prayer. Every leader requires prayer to function very well”
