NIHORT empowers 120 Deltans on mushroom, ginger cultivation 

Over 120 people have been trained on mushroom & ginger cultivation and value chains development in Delta State.  
 
The training and empowerment facilitated by a legislator representing Ndokwa/Ukwani Federal Constituency, Hon. Ossai Nicholas Ossai was specifically organised for youths and women from the three Local Government Areas Ukwani, Ndokwa West, and Udokwa East constituting his constituency.  
 
The three-day programme held in Kwale, Ndokwa West local government in collaboration with the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), Ibadan, Oyo State was aimed at giving the dividence of democracy through an entrepreneurial skills in cultivation of Ginger and Mushroom, and processing of the produce into various products and value addition of the two agro commodities.

Representative of the sponsor Ossai, the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor, Hon. Ashibogwu Nze Kingsley reiterated the fact that the empowerment was not the first time the legislator will be empowering his people, as he believes in making responsible leadership of his followers through empowering them to orientate their lives economically to stay out of poverty.  

The trainees were exposed to production techniques of mushroom and ginger, post harvest handlings, processing, utilisations, packaging & Marketing. Book-keeping and accounts for business management. 

Two of the participants, Mr. Chibeize and Miss Faith both unemployed graduate youths hoped to start a cottage processing after the training. 
 
The participants were empowered with Starter Packs to take off after their training.
