Niger Delta ex-agitators canvass longer training period

Trainees in the one-month agricultural enterprises training done in Umuahia, Abia State capital, for 150 Niger Delta ex-agitators have called for the extension of the duration for future beneficiaries.

The training, the second to be sponsored by the Presidential Amnesty Office, was conducted by the Abia State Agricultural Development Programme (ADP), in conjunction with Fadmobat Investment Ltd.

The trainees were taught piggery, poultry, fishing, aquaculture commercial farm ownership, records/accounts keeping, personnel management, farm products marketing, among others, by experts.

The state ADP Programme Manager, Chief Batho Onyemaobi, told The Guardian after the valedictory session of the training that the participants exhibited much enthusiasm to learn, especially piggery, poultry and aquaculture.

Training Coordinator from Fadmodat Ltd, Mr George Ogbonna, expressed satisfaction that despite the larger number of the participants in this second batch, the training was successful.

“This was because we had fears of possible crisis due to their large number.

But they remained calm, cooperative and determined to learn even during lectures on cropping that some did not seem to be interested in.

They were more interested in animal husbandry, aquaculture and not in crop related areas,” he said.

In his remarks, the spokesman of the trainees, Abraham Ebiyekon, from Bayelsa State, described the training as interesting, exciting and successful.
