NGO enjoins government, others to promote learning

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Lagos Career Summit (LCS), has called for collaboration between the government and other stakeholders to promote teaching and learning in the country.

The call was made at the maiden summit of the organisation titled, “My career, my education, my future.” The event also featured presentation of scholarship awards to 15 best secondary school students from both public and private schools in Lagos, who participated in essay writing competition.

The scholarship will enable them to study Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills. The beneficiaries, according to the organisers will be monitored and their success evaluated.

The summit also provided training to the students on how to make informed choices, achieve their goals and contribute to the development of education and innovation in the country.

A social entrepreneur, Mr. Ephraim Abutu, in his remark stated, “We believe education is the bedrock of a successful leadership, that’s why we are blending education and technology together in other to achieve our set goals by imparting knowledge through the summit.”

“Technology has been neglected where people don’t look at the usefulness of it, it is one of our aim to bring technology closer to education, to educate the students on approach to go with the right course, to prepare them for corporate world.” He disclosed that the summit is going to be a yearly event.

He further stated that the aim of the NGO is to prepare the young ones for the future by equipping them with requisite skills and knowledge needed to navigate challenges of life.

About 87 students from different public and private schools were in attendance at the summit. Recognition awards and certificates were presented to some of the students as a way of encouraging them to work harder.

They solicited for sponsorship from the government and other organisations to join hands to promote education in Africa.
