Towards ending gender based violence in the society, Nasru-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT) in collaboration with the Women Wing of Christian of Association Nigeria, WOWICAN and The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria, FOMWAN has organised a training and capacity building workshop for its members and stakeholders on Gender Based Violence (GBV) as part of their outreach programs.

Sponsored by The Carter Center, it took place in Lagos, Kano and Enugu respectively.

The National Women Affairs Secretary of NASFAT, Alhaja Suwebat Kupolati said the training is timely and beneficial to all.

“ We therefore need to do a lot to sensitise people in the communities on the prevention of Gender Based Violence. The bulk of the training and sensitization lies with the missioners (Imams) because a lot of people believe in them.”

According to her, today, it is difficult for some people to trust others. Some wives cannot trust their husbands due to gender-based violence.

She applauded the Focal Point, Alhaja Sadiat Onike-Azeez and her team of erudite facilitators, Imam Shodehinde, Barr. Efe Anaughe and Mr. Sulaiman Alebiosu, who trained and educated the NASFAT stakeholders from the branches in the chosen communities and their environs on the prevention, roles and responsibilities of personnel on Gender Based Violence (GBV).

Alhaja Sadiat Onike-Azeez said the fight against Gender Based Violence is a religious obligation on everyone.

She added that, “it is compulsory on everyone to report and act on any case of gender based violence to end this menace in our society.

According to her, Shariah is all about the promotion of benefits and removal of harm in the society. “ All hands must be on deck to end GBV in our society,” she said.
