NASFAT conference to tackle challenges bedeviling women

Nasril Lahil –Fathih Society of Nigeria, (NASFAT) is set to provide solutions to challenges overwhelming women, most especially on different forms of molestation, use of hijab at public places, security, gender equalities, kidnapping, poverty, health challenges, families, carrier, home management and stress.

To this end, the islamic organisation is organising its sixth NASFAT Women Biennial Conference slated for Kaduna.

National Women Affairs secretary, Alhaja Samiat Mumuni, said the conference, which would hold between March 29 and April 1, is an avenue to discus the challenges bedeviling women in the society and proffer possible solutions.

“The conference is designed to provide platform for women to robs minds, discuss issues affecting them, inspire them, empower them with knowledge that allows them to stand out as role models in the society to stand the test of time” she said.

According to her, the theme of the conference ‘preparing Muslimah for the challenges of our Time’ is apt based on the trendy issues in the society regarding insecurity, molestation, kidnapping, poverty, health and inequality treatment unleash on women.

She said about 1, 000 NASFAT women will attend the conference from all walks of life spread across all over the world. We are also expecting representatives from other religious organisations and few NGOs.

Mumini described the refusal by the Nigerian Law School to allow Firdaus Amasa entrance into the venue of the ‘Call to bar’ ceremony because she put on hijab as unlawful. “ The use of hijab is an Islamic injunction and also an Act of worship. It constitutes a violation of human rights to stop Muslim girls from wearing hijab in public schools.

The Chairperson of the Conference, Alhaja Monsurat Ibidapo, said the conference would sensitize the public on how to thrive with the challenges in the society.

“We’ve got reputable scholars on ground that will educate, shed light on issues affecting the home front, carriers, managing home, personal self, raising Godly children, how to take care of their husband and all what bothers women in general,” she said.

He noted that the event is not limited to only NASFAT women; every woman all over the world is welcome to the event to come and learn how to manage the home and triumph despite the challenges trendy in the society.

Former NASFAT National Women Affairs Secretary, Alhaja Nafisat Arogundade, said the event would focus on training girl child on how to be responsible Muslim women.

“It will also give a rare opportunity to meet Muslim women all over the world with different cultural background, to share their views and propose possible solution to end the challenges distressing women,” she added.

Arogundade said that a communiqué would be release to add value to humanity in general.

She noted that, Islam does not discriminate gender but there are roles accorded to each sex and cannot be inter change. But that does not gives room to gender inequalities. “ Islam emphasise that female children should be properly train, it is when the women are properly trained that is when we can have a better nation”

“In NASFAT we have programs where we empower our women in skills, so that women can contribute positively to the economy, we also educate our girl child by offering them scholarship at Fountain University”

Secretary of the conference, Dr. Rahmat Adisa, said Islam strongly prohibits domestic violence and NASFAT has a faith base body shun against any forms of violence, that is the reason why the organization partners with UNICEF to champion the campaign against violence. Most especially child abuse.

“ NASFAT have done lot in ending violence in the society by sensitise stakeholder’s, Missioners, children, teachers and all trainers in Lagos and calabar, the two state given to us by UNICEF,” she said.
