No fewer than 4400 youths are expected to benefit from the skills acquisition programme organized by Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) in all the local council in Lagos State.

The Amir (President), MSSN, Lagos State Area Council, Dr. Saheed Ashafa, said the move was part of its efforts to reduce unemployment and assist the Federal Government’s job creation drive.

Ashafa, who spoke on the 21st Holiday Training Course (HTC) which started on Thursday, July 19th, said each of the 44 centers would train at least 100 youths in different skills.

He identified the skills to include event decoration and planning, soap making, hairstyling/barbing, baking, bead making, shoemaking, catering, electricals and wiring, printing, generator servicing, hairdressing, coding application, kiddies craft, digital marketing, graphics design, tie and dye, engineering, plumbing maintenance and services.

Others are solar lamp making, emergency power bank making, small chops, cocktails and Chapman making, phone maintenance, furniture making and upholstery, paint production and painting, household cleaning material, rabbit, snail rearing and little crop production, and perfume production.

Ashafa explained that the skills were selected to enable the beneficiaries to be self-employed, adding that with the right skills, people are better equipped to set up their own business.

He said: “We have decided to expand the scope of this year’s HTC camp to include skill acquisition and entrepreneurial training. This to make Muslims active partakers in the economy of the 21st century; be self-productive and economically independent.

“It is our belief that the programme will lead to the establishment of a safe, secure and prosperous Muslim youths base that will be a major asset to Nigeria and a global model for socio-economic recovery and development,” he stated.

To ensure efficiency and quality training across the 44 centres, Ashafa said that the directorate would be monitoring activities of the trainees through its zonal officers in all the 44 local councils in Lagos State.

The Muslim students’ leader urged participants to embrace skill acquisition for wealth creation, noting that would help to reduce youth restiveness in the state.

He added, “We will ensure that participants at the training get the required skills that they need. As a youth-based religious organisation, we understand that it is important for us to expose our members to available skills to learn, not only to make a living but to be job creators.

“The training also provides an opportunity to interact with successful entrepreneurs and learn new skills on your way to building a productive and self-reliant future.”

The Holiday Training Course (HTC) is one of MSSN Lagos annual camping programmes aimed at developing Muslim youths spiritually, academically and morally.
