After many years of working closely with Mobil as a Supplier, Chemagro Nigeria last year got a franchise to market and produce MOBIL INSECTICIDE. The Company now becomes the Sole Marketer of the product which comes as a good development for the Chief Executive Officer, Micheal Fagbote.

Fagbote explains, ‘’ we have an agreement with Mobil to produce and market Mobil insecticide. We are the only company with the license to market this product in Nigeria. We have been talking with the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and going through other processes since 2013, the production officially started in 2013.

Presently, the company produce abroad. The CEO maintains that the quality of Mobil insecticide is never in doubt worldwide. According to him, hands are on deck to set up a factory in Nigeria to ease production, though it takes time to get necessary machines together and location for the factory.
We have the license and the support of NAFDAC to market in Nigeria.

We produce MOBIL INSECTICIDE in conformity with Mobil specification and the quality meets international standard. Mobil Insecticide is unique.

According to him, the smell is friendly to its consumers BUT VERY HARSH ON INSECTS. He further highlighted that ‘’we cannot tell you what makes our product different, if we do, it simply means we have divulge the secret of the uniqueness in our brand. However, we settles for quality.

It is pertinent to let you know that there are fake Mobil products in the Nigeria but we are yet to identify the source. Much progress has been made by NAFDAC, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the Police who assist us in arresting the culprits. The CEO of Chemagro said that apart from the negative effect of fake products on the public it can also destroy the reputation Mobil has built over the years as a multinational company.

To differentiate between the counterfeit and original product of Mobile Insecticide, the ondo state indigene, educates the public to pay attention to the product features of a flying horse logo on top of the cover; trade mark at the end of the logo; and theNAFDAC Reg. No.: A5 – 0891;
In addition to the intervention of the Police and NAFDAC, he emphasized that Chemagro Nigeria embarks on sensitization on newspapers and jingles on radio regularly to sensitise the public. In the same vein, he said ‘’We have involved some people to go into the market and fish out these fake products, we discovered that the fake product sellers would ask if you need the original or cheaper version. It is important to note that since some of the marketers of fake mobil insecticides were arrested they no longer display same.

Fake products can be likened to fake or expired drugs and we all know the implication of such malpractices as fake products are not good for public consumption. It may have the same label but different contents. We use this medium to advise fake dealers/producers of whatever products to go through the right process instead of getting advantage of other people’s originality.
As at the time of the interview, we have four distributors of Mobil Insecticide in Lagos, two in Abuja and one in Kano.

However, you can get the original Mobil Insecticide anywhere including supermarkets. We have it in our store and with our distributors, Fagbote highlighted.

Speaking about challenges in doing business in Nigeria, he insists that he has no choice other than to face whatever comes his way moreso that the issue of fake product is surmountable because NAFDAC and the Police are up to the task, also since the commencement of production, it has created job opportunities for some Nigerians.
