Nigeria would on Thursday, November 8 join the rest of the world to celebrate the World Quality Day (WQD) at Sheraton Hotel, Lagos. The event is organised by World Quality Alliance to recognise excellence, quality conformance and promote awareness of the important contribution that quality makes towards health and economic growth of a country.

Secretary, Award Committee, Ifeoma Favour Emeka, said global economic growth today depends on quality, innovation and sustainability, adding that the award reinforces these commitments, as foundation for improving brands and business performance.

With the theme ‘Quality: A Question of Trust,’ Emeka noted that World Quality Alliance, with the support of Chartered Institute of Quality, has made an alliance to intensify relationship and promote global commitment. Speaking on trust, she explained that it is a hard earned commodity, which can be squandered in a moment.

“Hardly a day passes without reading about quality failure and its impact on stakeholders, organisations and the corresponding question on integrity and competence,” she said. “The quality management profession is about helping organisations put in place competent system to ensure that the activity of an organisation delivers on its promises to customers and stakeholders.

“These systems of governance, assurance and improvement combined, with your culture of quality, are your investment in trust and reputation.”She, however, called on relevant stakeholders including Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) to support and take ownership of the award, stressing that a country that does not thrive on quality may not survive the fourth industrial revolution, which is anchored on technology.

The quality award would feature individual categories such as CEO of the year, Best Customer Service Professional of the year, Quality Excellence Award in Manufacturing, Banking, Financial Services, Hospitality, Travels and Tourism Sectors, Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Sectors. Other categories include Business Process Excellence and Project Awards.

Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, is expected to grace the occasion as special guest, while Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, and Director-General of Standards Organization of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Aboloma, are also expected to attend. Other international speakers include CEO and founder of York Exponential, John McElligott, Principal I J Duarte and Associates Ltd, Jim Duarte, and Rebekah Kolwalski, among others.
