Of the 37 elevated to management cadre, seven are Deputy directors, 13 assistant directors and 17 GL 14 officers. The promotion takes effect from January 1, 2015.

A breakdown of the promotion list shows that Programmes Directorate has 60 candidates; Administration Department has 55; while the News Directorate has 34 staff promoted 13 of whom were on management cadre.

Others are: Engineering Directorate, 44; Finance Department, 24; Audit Unit, 4; Information Technology, 7; and Strategic Planning & Corporate Development Department.

The merit-based promotion follows rigorous interviews in December last year in Lagos and Abuja Centres of the corporation and is in fulfillment of management promise of ensuring regular promotion of staff in VON.

The Director General, Mallam Abubakar Jijiwa, had always emphasized the need for staff to distinguish themselves on their jobs to merit promotion, not only because of the financial implications but also for career fulfillment, leadership mobility and exposure to responsibilities and opportunities in the future.
