Firm launches new product to promote good sanitation

The WTD, observed globally every November 19 each year, is a day set aside by the United Nations (UN) to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis in order to ensure that everyone has a safe toilet by 2030. This is also part of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which is sanitation and water, with the aim to achieve sanitation for all and end open defecation.

The theme of the global day is “ When Nature Calls “.According to statistics, 4.5 billion people live without “safely managed sanitation and about 892 million people practise open defecation.

Speaking at the unveiling of the product, the Brand Manage, Hypo, Onome Asagbra stressed that about 123 million Nigerians are still relieving themselves in the open or unsafe, unhygienic toilets, noting due to duty toilets, the human faeces spreads killer infectious diseases that poses danger to the health of women and children, who are the most vulnerable.He said as part of actions to end this unhygienic life-threatening practice and promote safer environment the new disinfectant toilet cleaner brand would ensure Nigerians have access to safer toilets.

He added that as a sanitation driven brand, Hypo Toilet Cleaner would address the rising sanitation crisis, coupled with the amount of years spent on research to develop a lasting solution to the Nigerian communities in order to achieve the SDG 6 by 2030.

“Hypo toilet cleaner guarantees the utmost cleanliness of toilets, kills germs and guarantees freshness around the toilet space making the toilet experience a memorable one at all time. We wang Nigerians to be hygienic, imbibing the culture of good sanitation, which is why we are giving a potent solution that cleans toilet,” he said.

The General Manager, Hypo, Praveen Katarki said the product took years of research before been produced and unveiled to the public at an affordable scale to promote good and safer sanitation.Representing the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, the State’s Director, Drug Quality Control Laboratory, Wale Poluyi said the state government and the ministry commend the Hypo brand for its efforts towards promoting good and hygienic environment, thereby preventing the spread of epidemic.

Also the President, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr Francis Faduyile, represented by Emma Okon stressed that the country needs hygienic toilets as billions of people lack access to one.

This, he said, means human faeces, on a massive scale, is not being captured or treated – contaminating the water and soil that sustain human life, adding that the country is turning its environment into an open sewer.He said Nigeria must build toilets and sanitation systems that work in harmony with ecosystems, adding that with the support of Hypo in providing solutions that would aid cleanliness of the toilets, the country would achieve safer sanitation by 2030.
