Arabic and Islamic Training Centre (Markaz), Agege, one of the foremost Islamic citadels of learning in the country, has concluded arrangement to celebrate the centenary of the founder of the institute and renowned scholar, Shaykh Adam Abdullahi El-Ilory.

Addressing a press conference at Markaz Agege Lagos on the centenary activities, one of the alumni of the institute, Prof. Badmus Yusuf of the University of Ilorin, said the celebration which kicks off from April 17 to 21, was to highlight the contributions of Sheikh Adam to scholarship and propagation of the pristine teachings of Islam.

He was flanked by the Rector of the institute, Shaykh Habeebullahi AI- Elory and other alumni of the institute including Dr. Yusuf Jumuah, Prof. Hamza Abdulsalam, Sheikh Sulaiman Farouq Onikijipa; Prof. Muritadoh Bidmus, Prof. Isa Abubakar, among others.

With the theme, “Moving Nigeria to Greatness through the works of El-Ilory”, the crux of the week-long event was the opening ceremony at the University of Lagos with sub-themes such “War Against Corruption in Indiscipline in Nigeria, the situation so far”; “Peaceful coexistence for Nigeria Development” and “the Importance of Education and virile politics for development”.

Yusuf noted that the products of Shaykh El-Ilory could be found in various educational institutions and professional disciplines in Nigeria and beyond.

He revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu Gambari, Governors of Lagos, Ogun and Kwara are expected at the celebration.

“It is our conviction that if Nigerians could put into practice the ideal teachings of Islam as propagated by El-Ilory, the Nigerian society will be better for all”, he said.
