Vice chancellor, Covenant University (CU), Ota, Prof. Aderemi Atayero has identified the absence of strong-willed leadership as the bane of Africa’s underdevelopment.

Atayero lamented that successive African leaders have failed to take risks or explore innovations capable of advancing the growth of the region.

He stated this while delivering the keynote address at the opening of the first Covenant International Model United Nations Conference (CIMUN).

The vice chancellor pointed out that the conference would address core issues affecting the African continent’s development.

He said, “African countries have had the challenge of development. At the centre of this is lack of strong-willed leadership ready to take risks, or absence of innovative ways in getting things accomplished. Can we afford to keep Africa back by not daring to make, create and innovate for our prosperous future?

In his remarks, Prof Kunle Ajayi urged the United Nations (UN) to introduce and bring youths into the bodies and organs of UN.

The eminent scholar from Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti said the UN should allow youth participate in its activities to enable them learn better.
