The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Muiz Banire, has pointed out the need for a general resolution on the part of the people as the only way to banish corruption in Nigeria.

He also identified, the need for obedience to the rule of law by all individuals and institutions regardless of the position one occupies.

Banire, who was among the recently decorated Senior Advocates of Nigeria made this statement during an interaction session with some journalists in his law office in Lagos.

To him, fighting corruption is not about picking people up and taking them to court, rather he suggested the need for the Professor Itse Sagay committee to evaluate the legal framework properly.
“The Sagay committee must look at the structure; the legal framework. That is the starting point, because there are so many of them that are conflicting, some are unintelligible and some obsolete”, Banire said.

Speaking further, he suggested that the EFCC, ICPC, Code of Conduct Bureau, Nigerian Police and other agencies be structured, such that there will be a format to avoid situation where different governments adopts different strategies in the fight against corruption.

He also stressed the need to look at the procedural law. He explained that if the substantive law is okay and the procedural law is weak, there might be systemic crisis, saying such is the reason there are undue delays in anti-corruption cases with the impression that there is always no end to high profile cases.

Banire also used the opportunity to urge the people to give the president enough time to plan so that the expected dividends can come in ‘the quantum that we desire’. According to him, President Buhari has said he does not want to make mistake; he wants to do things meticulously.

Responding to questions on whether he actually had the ambition of running for the governorship of Lagos State, he says it was a mere rumour.

His words: “I never told anybody that I want to be governor. Even to be a judge, I am not cut out to it for several reasons. One of it is that the welfare of judges, to me, is not sufficient, it is not tempting, not inviting. You must engage in things that allow you to run away from temptation.

Let me give you a scenario. If I were to be a governor or get appointed as a minister today, maybe the highest pay I would get is N25 million per annum. That cannot solve my problem. Any other thing will come from stealing or bribery. So, if you are not ready to steal or ask for bribe, restrict yourself to a place where you can make good money legitimately”.
He maintained that he preferred to remain a grassroot politician.

Muiz and his associates are credentialed semi-illeterates who can’t debate intelligently without resorting to insults and petty language.

That is why they are where they are and continue to face the challenges they do.

You think having degrees makes one intelligent? That is a shame. Degrees have nothing to do with intelligence.

As for the SAN rank it is more political than ever before and proves nothing. Muiz is semi-illiterate and of low quality. Asiwaju would never use such a person as Governor. He was merely deceived and strung along as a check for Tunde.

Your bare faced lies that Muiz was offered Governor twice is laughable. Was it not the last rejection for Akinwunmi that made him sponsor Pitan and mobilize against the party leadership? Knowing fully well that Pitan wasn’t going anywhere but looking for attention.

Kindly bring to our attention where it is on record that he was offered the job twice and you rejected it? Joker!

He is a joke and is called ‘houseboy’ in inner quarters.

As far as Osogbo is concerned only time will reveal his desperation and deceptions. But I can assure you the next Governor of Osun has been chosen and Muiz will fail as always.

Until he retraces his steps back to his roots he will not get anything else in this country.

This man is full of contradictions. Today you’re a professional in politics, tommorow you prefer to remain a grassroots politician.

Today public office pay is not attractive to you bcos it cannot meet your high needs and you don’t want to steal, so basically we are to conclude these needs were brought about as a result of the ‘theft’ you engaged in as commissioner for twelve years in Lagos State? From a mere lecturer living in the mushin slums to living in a billion naira house in gra ikeja.

He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. You have looted the state dry with your corruption and underhand dealings and now you want to make everyone believe you’re a ‘born again’? You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.

The truth is you tried to be governor of Lagos so many times and failed because the party hierarchy detests your arrogant and disrespectful person and they have shut you out of the scheme of things in Lagos State. Now the widespread rumor is that you’re angling to succeed Governor Rauf Aregbesola in Osun State. Is there no end to your quest for power and wealth? And if truly the patriot you claim to be, should national call to service not be more important than money? must everything be about money?

This man is a crook and a hypocrite.

      Joe,
You are either brain dead or economic with the truth. It is very clear that your name is not Joe but I personally know who you are and what camp you belong from your writing.

      1. Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN) is a professional (SAN) in politics. Does that change the meaning of his engagement in grassroot politics? Where is the contradiction here? You are blind-folded by the money given you by your paymaster.

      2. This man was living a great and comfortable life as a lecturer (you refer to lecturing as “mere”. That shows your how mentally retarded and arkward you are.) He helped tons of people out of poverty with his “mere” lecturer’s income and contributed to the development of political structures in Nigeria ever before he was appointed a commissioner. Did you say Mushin is aSlum

Did you refer to Mushin as a Slum? I cry for you and your generations yet unborn…… People like you who are bent on bending the truth and denigrading others shall never progress in life.

        3. Can you give an instance where he had come out to say he wanted to contest for governorship election? It is on record that your Paymaster (Tinubu) offered him the job twice and he turned it down both times.

        4. How can a Lagosian plan to become a Governor in Osun State??? This is the height of your hypocrisy!!!!!! You are so full of CRAP!

        5. I completely agree with you that a national call to service should not be about money but that is what you and your paymasters made it and that is why he refused to associate with it.
