Suspects in Akwa Ibom ex-deputy speaker’s killing knows fate August 4

Justice Okon Okon of the Akwa Ibom State High Court, Uyo, has fixed August 4, 2017 for judgment in the murder of Okon Uwah, a former Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

The four accused persons in the case include Effiom Jacob Abai, who was Vice Chairman of Ukanafun Local Government Area in the state at the time the former deputy speaker was killed.

The other three charged alongside Abai are Simeon Daniel Udoikpe, Godwin Moses Udo, also known as Utip Udosip and Akaniyene Benson Brown, also known as Ekomobong Benson Udong.

Uwah, who was the Ukanafun State Constituency candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), in the last general election, was attacked and killed in   broad day light on March 18, 2015, while embarking on house-to house campaign along with other party faithfuls in a village called Nkek in Ukanafun.

The murder was alleged to have been carried out by thugs sponsored by Abai, the 1st accused person in the case.At the moment, seven persons are being prosecuted before the judge over the murder as three other accused persons are standing trial separately from the four accused persons awaiting judgment on August 4.
