Nigerian lawyer, Adenipekun joins permanent court of Arbitration in the Netherlands

The Federal Government has appointed Mr Adebayo Adenipekun, (SAN), the managing partner, Afe Babalola (SAN) chambers, as a member of the permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, Netherlands.

The Federal Government has appointed Mr Adebayo Adenipekun, (SAN), the managing partner, Afe Babalola (SAN) chambers, as a member of the permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, Netherlands.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration established by treaty in the year 1899 is an inter-governmental organisation providing a variety of Dispute Resolution services for the international community and each signatory country nominates four (4) arbitrators to the Court’s pool of arbitrators.

In a letter dated April 4, 2017 and signed by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mr Taiwo Abidogun, the letter of appointment has been forwarded to the Permanent Court of Arbitration through the appropriate channel.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration administers international arbitrations concerning disputes arising out of treaties including investment treaties and multilateral treaties.

He holds Bachelor’s Degrees in English and Law.He also holds a Master’s Degree in Law and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) as well as Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators.

He regularly sits as an arbitrator over submitted disputes both as presiding and party-appointed arbitrator.He also appears as counsel in arbitral proceedings and currently the Lead Counsel representing Nigeria in an investment arbitration currently pending before a panel of the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), sitting in England.
