NBA sets up public interest litigation committee

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has set up a 13-member committee for the purpose of taking up public interest litigation on its behalf.

This, according to the President of the association, Olumide Akpata was done because recent events in the nation have reinforced the need for the NBA to activate its public interest litigation machinery to institute actions to challenge and seek judicial intervention on various issues.
In a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the Association, Dr. Rapulu Nduka, he said that the NBA had empanelled the Public Interest Litigation Committee (PILC) with a mandate to, among other things, actively take steps to restore and reinforce the faith of the society in law as a veritable tool to bringing solutions to societal issues and checking abuse of power.
According to him, the committee is led by Dr. Charles Mekwunye as the Chairman, and Dr. Olumide Ayeni (SAN) as the Co-Chairman.
Aside from the chairman and co-chairman, other members of the committee include Dr. Paul Ananaba (SAN) who is currently the chairman of the NBA- SPIDEL, Kunle Edun, Aderemi Oguntoye, Boonyameen Lawal, Solomon Oho, Gloria Ballason, Malachy Odo, Olumide Babalola, Baba Isah, Amaka Ezeno, and Auwal Yau.
