Dangote workers get two and half years imprisonment over N15 million theft

Justice O. J. Bamgbose of Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta has sentenced four Dangote’s workers, Adewale Damelda and others to two and half years imprisonment for stealing N15million belonging to their employer. 

Justice O. J. Bamgbose of Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta has sentenced four Dangote’s workers, Adewale Damelda and others to two and half years imprisonment for stealing N15million belonging to their employer. 

The court found them guilty of the two count amended charges brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).The convicts, Damelda, Ibrahim Lawal, Afeez Olaniba and Lukman Adama changed their earlier plea of not guilty to guilty, when they entered into plea bargain agreement with the prosecution.
 
Before the court delivered judgment on the matter, the prosecution counsel, Idris Mohammed told the court he has amended information. The defendants entered plea bargain agreement with the prosecution. They were rearraigned and pleaded guilty.
 
The judge therefore sentenced first defendant to two and half years on each count and it shall run concurrently from the date he was arrested and detained being 14th September, 2018.   The money and property recovered from him shall be forfeited to Dangote cement and shall enter into a bond with EFCC to be a good character and never to commit any crime again within Nigeria and oversees.
 
The judge also sentenced the second defendant to eight months imprisonment on each of the count and it shall to run concurrently from 12th September 2018.

The judge also ordered that the N1.6million recovered from him shall be forfeited to Dangote cement and he shall enter into a bond with EFCC. While 3rd and 4th defendants were sentenced to eight months on each count and to run concurrently from the date they were arrest.

The total sum of N900, 000 recovered from them him shall be forfeited to Dangote cement. They shall also enter into a bond with EFCC to be a good character and never to commit any crime again within Nigeria and oversees.
    
The complainant, Dangote Cement, alleged that Dalmelda, a Fleet Analyst; Lawal,  Chief Driver; Adam,  a Ghanaian driver and Olaniba, who is an agent of a contractor to Dangote Cement, diverted trucks carrying  800 bags of cement valued at over N15m.
